CASE STUDY
THE CLIENT:
Fulton County Sheriff’s Office
The Challenge:
The office was preparing for a high-profile court proceeding that would attract a large volume of visitors as well as national media attention. As a large office located in a central metropolitan area with a large homeless population, they needed in-depth security measures to ensure the multi-story buildings and staff were protected from various threats.
The Approach:
Group Nine Risk Consulting conducted an in-depth Security Vulnerability Assessment that included observation of vehicle and pedestrian entrances, day and night operations, and judicial proceedings. The SVA documented several vulnerabilities and described detailed mitigation strategies that would provide immediate and long-term success. Our team offered specific advice on the utilization of personnel, creation of processes, updates to procedures, future capital investments, and additional training required to close insufficiencies. The team also reviewed the current camera and alarm system, facility lighting, and access control measures for visitors, staff, and special events.
The SVA identified the need for additional training for executives and staff ahead of the event. The Group Nine team conducted and in-depth training exercise for over 60 leaders from more than a dozen organizations. We also led 40 hours of training for line staff, including Law Enforcement Use of Force, Active Shooter, and Other Emergency Response, along with practical exercises and large-scale drills within the courthouse.
The Result:
The high-profile court proceedings took place without any incidents. The Sheriff’s office is now better prepared to handle such proceedings in the future. The team publicly acknowledged Group Nine Risk Consulting as being instrumental to its success. The current security gaps identified in our SVA allowed the Sheriff’s office to advocate for additional security equipment and personnel funding systematically and effectively.
